Started the day by heading over the bridge from the Hilton San Diego Bayfront to Coronado for a morning swim at the other 50m pool on the island. I arrived just before 9am, only to realise the pool is part of Coronado High School. Waited a few minutes for the kids to clear out before heading to the pool entrance.

This place has two pools – a 50m Olympic pool and a 25-yard training pool. Luckily, both were open.

Tried to pay for my swim, but the card machine wasn’t working and I didn’t have any cash. The woman at the desk let me in anyway, so now I owe her a bar of British chocolate!

For most of the session, it was just me, two lifeguards, and one other swimmer. The entire pool complex was wide open – perfect for a peaceful outdoor swim. I jumped in and worked through a solid 2,000-yard set, then moved over to the 25-yard pool to finish off.
