5 November 2023 – Found myself at the Coronado Aquatic Center on beautiful Coronado Island, San Diego. After a few days without a swim, I eased back into it with a nice, slow 3km session.

It’s Bonfire Night, and I finally got a really good night’s sleep after feeling wiped out for a few days. Yesterday was a long one – a 9-hour drive from Las Vegas to Malibu, then down to San Diego after Alaska Airlines cancelled my flight. At least I managed to squeeze in a fantastic breakfast at Geoffrey’s in Malibu, even though my Hilton Marina Del Rey booking fell through.

The Coronado pool itself is amazing – right on the waterfront with super clear water. It felt great to be back in the water, and I focused on breathing more to my left to balance things out. There’s a really good water bottle system here, which is always a bonus.

I wasn’t feeling too hungry the last few days, but after this swim, I’m definitely ready for a proper breakfast.

It could have been a double pool day, but the 25-yard pool was closed because of a heater fault. To be honest, it was so hot outside I would have happily done my extra 1km in freezing water!
