It's not often a hotel pool is long enough to make the list, especially at a Hilton, so finding one at the hotel I'm actually staying in is a result!

Wake up to thick San Diego coastal mist outside the window. I can barely see anything. By the time I finish the swim, it has lifted and the dockside is busy.

The pool deck sits right on the waterfront. There's a Dole container ship being loaded with what I'm pretty sure are bananas, plus a few odd little tugboats moving around. Not the usual view for a morning swim.

The pool is confirmed at 25 yards, with a two-lane-width swimming section built into its palm-like shape. I keep things easy to avoid making too many waves. The only other people around are a couple sitting in the hot tub smoking, at 8am no less. They really do not look the type!

No flip turns today. Work through a gentle 1,200 yards, then call it done.
