I’m up in North Wales on a geography field trip with the youngest – he’s busy surveying the Morfa Dyffryn sand dunes while I get to enjoy some of the gorgeous scenery (and a bit of rare sunny weather!). We’re spending a few days in Porthmadog, so I decided to make the most of it with an early morning swim.

The Glaslyn Leisure Centre is just a two-minute drive from our hotel – though to be honest, I probably should’ve walked! When I arrived, the pool was semi-busy, with no lane ropes, so it was a classic case of finding a gap and dodging other swimmers. I managed a leisurely 1,200 metres before heading back for a well-earned full English buffet breakfast.
